Default Will ATT remove the subsidy lock from the iphone?

Will ATT remove the subsidy lock from the iphone
after the contract is over?

I got my Treo 650 unlocked by ATT after about 6 months into a 2 year contract.

Surely, ATT will release the iphone owners from having to stay with them after the 2 year contract is over (at the very least!).

Wasn't such subsidy locks deemed illegal a few months ago?

I think AT&T won't allow this. They probably have some sneaky way around it too. Apple probably cannot wait to for their 5 year contract to be over with. That way they can sell it to everyone they want without have to commit to a certain carrier.

Actually I remember seeing an article that "quoted" an AT&T rep that said they would be "happy" to unlock after the contract was up.

AT&T happy to do something? I will be shocked if this were the case. Let's see what happens in 2 years.
