Default Android vs. the iPhone! Let's Get It On!

Proprietary vs. Open Source, Regulated vs. Frontier, no keyboard vs. keys aplenty, Apple elegant vs. Google chic, Unlimited data vs. 1GB, iTunes vs. Amazon MP3, Google CEO on the board of directors vs... d'oh! Google search, maps, etc. vs... double d'oh!

The Android has landed. Check out all the coverage at our new little sibling site, AndroidCentral, and then let's get it on right here, in our forum.

Are they competitive, complementary, what?!

I honestly can not see this phone catch on like the iPhone did. Just can't see it. It will be interesting to see some other devices that get the Google OS put on them. Some big hits I see right off the bat, like Rene mentioned, 1GB of data? Ouch... Amazon MP3 will never outshine iTunes - not going to happen. Etc...

This will not come close to the iPhone. No way.

I agree. Can they sell like the iphone. NO WAY. Apple will sell 5 million iphone 3G in Q4 (Apple's Fisical Quarter ends Sept 30th). With the first gen iphone already sold 2.4 million. That's 7.4 million in total. 1G vs. 8G, that's pathetic. I never used Amazon's music service, no comment on that. Maybe there is no good reason for me to use it anyway. The only thing I like about the Android phone is the keyboard.

i think it will be good if they do compete with apple to get apples ass in gear for some more open source. But i can't see how 1 default os with the same apps running on many different specs will be good. Eventually i feel regulation will be needed or else closing off certain apps to only certain hardware.

That doesn't sound right. How'd you get your music collection on to it? Buy it all again from Amazon? Same goes for any other media files you happen to on your PC and want to load on your phone.

Take out the memory card and use a card reader perhaps. Not exactly super convenient!

You got that right. I can't imagine that being wrong, but I'm curious to know how it does work.

actually, thinking a bit more (it's late here) it might just mount as a USB drive. Drag and drop would be okish. Not exactly the iTunes end-to-end it just works solution but better than nothing.
