Starbucks wifi via laptop

Hey all, so I just got a new laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-CS320J) and I was trying to get on the starbucks wifi at my local shop. On my old computer, I usually get to the log-on screen but when I connect with this new laptop, it won't even get to the main wifi log-on screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I know at one time, AT&T was trying to get DSL customers to download and install the connection manager software from their website for login purposes.

Could that be the issue?
