AIM w/push will not send SMS

So like the rest of the world I have been checking the app store about every 5 minutes every day since 3.0 came out looking for some app updates. And up until last night (late) my heart was crushed every time with the lack of anything.

So I got the new version of AIM. My goal was that hopefully I could use it for texting and drop my text plan down to the $5/month one. Problem, when I select a contact and go to send a message always comes up saying that "This person cannot receive messages."

Pretty upsetting. Can beejive or IM+ also send free texts? Has anyone else gotten AIM to send texts to contacts, do the phone numbers have to be formatted a special way? I see AIM adds the +1 to the front of my numbers.
