Adobe admitted to working on Flash for the iPhone MacNN | Adobe: iPhone Flash in early development
Quote:
An iPhone version of Adobe's ubiquitous Flash plug-in is still early into development, the company has admitted. In an earnings call for Adobe's second financial quarter, CEO Shantanu Narayen has responded to questions on if and when Flash will be ready for the iPhone 3G, which itself is only expected to ship on July 11th.

"With respect to the iPhone, we are working on it," says Narayen. "We have a version that’s working on the [SDK] emulation. This is still on the computer and you know, we have to continue to move it from a test environment onto the device and continue to make it work. So we are pleased with the internal progress that we’ve made to date."

Indeed it does. I wonder when it will become a reality. Probably a while after the 2.0 software release. I'm thinking year end? Or early next year.

I think it's probably one of those applications that is hard to code efficiently so as to make it NOT be a battery hog. I'm sure they are probably working fast and furious, but Apple is pretty diligent about resource management on the iPhone (for example, not allowing background applications). My bet is that flash eats battery life, so until it is perfected, Apple says no no no.

We wouldn't be having this problem is the mobile Safari browser supported Flash already.

Nothing in the firmware suggests this. And as someone already posted, everything being reported is to the contrary.

I don't doubt we'll eventually see this -- because the whole world adopted this crap-tastic technology -- but I think it's awhile off.

Let's hope a while isn't too far away from now. It will only make the iPhone and mobile Safari that much more attractive. Could you imagine the new wave of web apps. Oh the possibilities.
