These tests from testmyiphone.com I would think cannot be trusted. I am connected through my WiFi but tried to trick the site by choosing 3G. Well it worked, even though I was connected via WiFi and I picked 3G the test didn't know. It showed my connection as 3G in the Test Results.
So someone can say oooh I have 3Mbps down with 3G when they really used Wifi. Just an observation is all. If the site had some type of notification on exactly the connection the iPhone was using and switched accordingly in the Test Results ok, but it doesn't. I know it doesn't make sense to lie and you only lie to yourself but I can see some people doing it. |

The results are filtered. I was chatting with the developer of the site in macrumors forums a while back when I was developing my "my3gspeed.com" site and he filters the stats page by IP address / hostname.
So you are only cheating yourself.

Not quite 1.2 Mbps. This was my first time testing the native speedtest app. Previously I'd always used different websites and the highest speed I'd ever scored was 350 Kbps (and usually was closer to 200 Kbps) even with full 3G bars (and WiFi wasn't much better). Wonder if those website tests are using some server far away from me? I see that the native app picks the server closest to my physical location.

Did a little bit more testing. With EDGE I'm rocking a whopping 54 Kbps download! Smokin'! And a 2nd 3G test also returned speeds over 1 Mbps. I guess the 3G data plan is worth it to me after all. I think AT&T may be downgrading EDGE in my area while upgrading 3G as I don't think it was that slow last year nor that 3G was as fast. I'm at home and have 5 bars of 3G but only 3 bars of EDGE.
WiFi of course is much faster (4 Mbps). The speed test native app differentiates between WiFi and cellphone tests but can't seem to differentiate between EDGE and 3G (it's pretty easy to guess which is which though). |

My test site My 3G Speed is located in Chicago which is a pretty good central location for the US and Canada. Seems to be pretty accurate to me and I'm in Miami so.

In any event, 1 meg, 3 megs... it's all the same to me. As long as a page loads within 5-10 seconds I personally don't care either way. ![]() |
