i have that same problem. and honestly it kind of ticks me off. no other cable i ever had with my ipods did this.

Same thing is starting to happen with my cable.. Just noticed this the other day but immediately knew Apple likely wouldn't replace it

My cables haven't had that problem yet, though the dog tries her very best.
