I don't know exactly how long , but I know backing up and address book ( though I RARELY add contacts ) takes the longest. It's really annoying. I understand backing up the phone could take a minute , especially if you have a almost full 16 GB iPhone.

My iPhone takes less than a couple of minutes to sync. I usually connect once or twice a day.

I think it all depends on the computers specs and the USB drive. I used to have my iTunes on my moms computer which was 1gb ram and I think 1.9 or 2.0ghz processor. And a USB 1.0 port. It always took FOREVER. Like 14 hours to sync my music the first time (14gb). Now I'm on a computer with 2gb ram and 2.3 or 2.4ghz processor an a USB 2.0 port. It syncs so much faster. Maybe 30-60min for all my music. And a min or less to backup daily

Less than 5 minutes. Typically sync 4-6 times per week.
