One very simple (and free) yet crazy addicting game is Cube Runner. It makes great use of the accelerometer. Also, Alien Attack is a great Space Invaders throw-back game.

Utility apps I use are:
-Evernote (Picture,Voice,Text notes you can sync to "The Cloud")
-Say Who for voice dialing. I found it accurate.
-Things is a task/to-do manager
-Firemail (If you email a lot, it allows landscape texting for sending emails)
-Spend (Money manager)
-Jaadu VNC (remote desktop access)
-NMobile is a pretty cool app. It warns you where radar cameras/speed traps are in your area via gps/maps. It's user inputted so it's always up to date.
-OneTap for movie listings
-PocketAid (First Aid)
-i.TV as a TV Guide

As mentioned, games you could go all out since there are so many. The ones that made me go 'wow' are:
-Texas Holdem
-Guitar Rock Tour
-The Price is Right
-Monopoly
-Ocarina

Default Best choice for multimedia says Consumer Reports

"The AT&T Apple iPhone (8GB) has a superb 3.5-inch multi-touch screen, virtual keyboard and the best MP3 player we've seen in a phone. A high-scoring, versatile, and innovative smart phone with a few warts. A very good choice for multimedia addicts--and now, even some corporate users."
-Consumer Reports, January 2009

Enjoy.

What percentage of U.S. owners have jailbroken their 3G? For a week's run through it would seem like a pointless exercise unless it is very common.
