Thumbs up How to rip DVD and convert Video to iPhone

< < Edit by Septimus:

Spam masquerading as a how-to guide. But the guides are also helpful if you buy their software, so here, I'll let them keep one link:

BTW, if you wanna do this on a Mac (or windows) download Handbrake, put DVD into computer.

Launch Handbrake, select the VIDEO_TS directory:

Select the iPhone import pre-set:

Click "Start," and go drink a couple beers.

Personally, on OS X, I use Handbrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/) to rip straight from DVD to iPhone format (MP4 H.264) or MacTheRipper (http://www.mactheripper.org/) + VisualHub (http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/) if for whatever reason Handbrake has trouble.

Since I have the AV cables and like to be able to take media to friends' or relatives' places for viewing via video out, I choose the "high quality" version, which looks great output to a CRT TV (not quite as good on an HD TV).

For the PC, I've used Videora (http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/).

All the above are easy to use, have easy tutorials, and default settings for iPhone.

MacTheRipper and Handbrake are free. VisualHub is worth the money if you do video work of any kind.

(They usually also have settings for AppleTV, iPod, and some for PSP and other gear).

I've been using iSquint for converting online videos to mp4 video, it's the kid brother version of VisualHub. I'm very pleased with it.
