Default using external hard drive to store itunes?

Hello, i am about to take the plunge and get rid of my bb storm fr a 32gb 3gs, but can any one tell me if you can store itunes or your i tunes libary on to an external hardrive? ( only have a laptop at the moment and am worried about filling up the memory with all of my music)

sure can, in iTunes you can choose wherever you want it to store your music. just a minor setting change.

i do this as well. have had an external hard drive with my mac for a couple years now. still works great even with newer versions of iTunes and my new iPhone 3GS. jump in, the water's fine! :P

Thanks guys, the case for getiing an iphne is growing bigger and bigger evry day, it a shame i will have to wait until christmas for it!!

It works fine having your iTunes library on an external drive. Just be aware that performance can differ by the connection you are using i.e. USB 2.0, Firewire 400, 800, etc.

I have my library on a Firewire 800 Drobo, works awesome and I have the security that my stuff is safe :-)
