The MobileMe name sucks. Plain and simple. The price is a bit high but unlike the .Mac service it replaces, I finally believe it might be worth it this time. Of course, it's of more value for Mac users than windows users for all the other stuff the service offers like Back to My Mac, Dock, Widget syncing etc. Push is great and now that it will push not only to my Mac but to my PC as well is an awesome feature. Best of all no complicated set up. I've never set up an exchange server before but I doubt it is an entirely easy process.
You can save $30 on MobileMe if you purchase with a new Mac or a new iPhone 3G so that leaves little reason not to try it out for at least a year. Of course, there is the 60 day free trial so try it, if it's of any value to you then buy it. If not, then skip it and you aren't out anything. How can you go wrong. Only downside is that if you buy your iPhone 3G at a different time than MobileMe then you wont be eligible for the $30 savings. Many people on the post said they saw it priced for $70 on Amazon. Best price I could find was $89.99 but if you can find it for $70 after the free trial then your in the same shape as if you bought it with the phone. Simple truth of the story is that you should try it even if you have no plans of using it. Compare it to the services you can get for free and if after 60 days you are happy with the free services then by all means stick with those. You have nothing to loose. |

So I've been searching and searching and can't seem to find an answer, but a lot of talk has been going on about how Apple now will finally offer a Push service that will compete with the BlackBerry, but what I can't seem to find is whether or not MobileME supports any other email addresses other than the "@me.com".
All videos on Apple's site only show the @me.com email account, all talk from sites only use this as well. So how does this compete with BIS if you can only use one email address and not others? Or, can you put in another email account (say, for example, a gmail.com account) and have that pushed as well? |

Aloha WickedRabbit,
MobileMe is the new iteration of .Mac, and will support your @mac email address as well as the new @me addy. If you didn't have .mac previously, however, you will only have the @me option. I had a trial version of .mac, but can't seem to log in - maybe I'll have to wait until later on today, as the webpage says it's "coming soon." Oh well, I may just have to pony up the money for this one. Has anyone heard whether or not Apple is actually offering the new MobileMe service for $70 with the purchase of iPhone 3G? I've read that, primarily on MacRumors.com, but haven't seen anything official from any credible source. HawaiiMacAddict |
