Default Exchange Sync Issues with 3G

I just had a company come in and put in a new network for the company I work for. Some of the people that work here use iPhones and we want that synced to Microsoft Exchange. When I call the Technology group that installed our server, they claim that we need to purchase a new SSL Certificate to do so and that the only other way would be opening up a port that is unsafe. Can anyone tell me an alternative? It seems so simple if we just use the wizard on the iPHone but the part where we get stuck at is where it asks for the Server Name. I do not know where to find the server name or the ip address of the server(I heard that works as well). If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thank you.

you could use IMAP, if enabled, but its not secure. when using active sync your mail server name should be the same server name your OWA server uses. can you access your mail via the web? if so try that.
