Default "May" be able to upgrade question

Ok, so I bought the iPhone 2G at the end of January 2008. I just tried preordering the new 3GS. It says I "may" qualify, how can I know for sure that I will qualify, because I went to Att the other week and they told me that I would have to wait til 9/29/09.

Review iPhone pricing.

As a valued AT&T customer, AT&T can offer you an early iPhone upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee. You may qualify for a standard iPhone upgrade on 06/29/2009.

* $299.00* — 8GB iPhone 3G (black)
* $399.00* — 16GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)
* $499.00* — 32GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)

I can't say for certain, but I would trust the website over the people at an AT&T store...

You can upgrade before you are eligible by paying more, $599 vs $299 for the 32GB for example.

I'm not sure if its worth it..

I have about 9 or 10 months left on my contract I think but I'm not sure I want to sign a new 2-year-deal on the 3GS when next year's phone will probably be a lot better in my opinion..

Oh I bet next year's will be sweet. The only thing is someone stole my iPhone a few months back. I've been using a blackberry curve, I HATE THIS PHONE! The iPhone is sooo much better.

The iPhone 2G was the original, unsubsidized iPhone. You are upgrade eligible now. I bought my 2G in December 2007, and was able to upgrade in July 2008 for the 3G.
