Default Why don't I get an audio or vibration alert when emails get pushed to my device?

I have Gmail, AOL and Yahoo accounts set up. They all have "push" enabled.

How do I set up my 3GS to either beep and/or buzz when e-mails get uploaded (either push or pulled)?

I seem to have to launch the email app and go to the account before the iPhone downloads the apps.

What controls do I have on notifications (to me) of email arrival?

TIA.

Well yahoo can only push on the iPhone so you have to fetch the other emails. And go to Setting>Sounds>And Turn New Mail on and Silent/Ring Vibrate on.

turn off wifi and don't use it ever. no, really. It interrupts with email if it's turned off and the phone is not being used. I hope it's a bug that's fixed sometime. you're not getting notified since it's not getting the emails.

On my system, the iPhone 3GS receives emails etc within seconds of it appearing on my work PC's Outlook. This is from the current iPhone manual:

"MobileMe, Microsoft Exchange, and Yahoo! Mail are known as “push” accounts. When new information is available, such as the arrival of an email message, the information is automatically delivered (pushed) to iPhone. (In contrast,“fetch” services require your email software to periodically check with your service provider to see if new messages have arrived, and then request them to be delivered.) MobileMe and Exchange also use push to sync your contacts, calendars, and bookmarks (MobileMe only) if you have those items selected in the account settings."

I have the settings set up that way, but the alerts don't always happen. I wish there was a way to make the device "nag" me with audible and visible alerts at selected intervals. A recording of my wife screaming "Read that email!!" would get my attention.

this doesnt make any sense to me. in fact, i have confirmed on this forum that the wifi "sleeps" when the phone is on standby. its using 3G instead. i occasionaly get a text with no audio, but i wouldnt say that there was a bug. i keep wifi on all the time and it notifies me just fine.

I rarely get emails if it in sleep mode and I leave wifi on.

this is on three different wireless networks to three different internet providers

I just posted about this in a different thread. Sorry. I'm having the same problem. I tested it today with two phones on the same Exchange and the same WiFi network. The other iPhone notified while in sleep mode and mine didn't. Would be nice to find a solution for this.

Update: I did a hard reset and things are pushing properly now over WiFi. Keeping my fingers crossed that this is fixed.

I've found that the hard reset worked once or twice, but a more pemanent fix is actually removing your SIM card for a few minutes and then rebooting the phone.
