Sync issues

Hi this is my first post so please bear with me. After syncing the first two times i seemed to lose all contacts. i have now restored them painfully by hand. i have switched off syncing with Contacts as i fear it will all go again. My problem is that previously i have used my phone in a different manner to Outlook contacts and that is probably the issue. but iphone seems not able to recognise company names and syncing seems to only be one way (which is not syncing but a conduit) ie Outlook over rides the phone which for me was a disaster. So now i have almost rebuilt contacts in my phone, i have backed up on itunes but not sure where to go from here

It seems Outlook doesn't play nicely with iPhone. I had the same problem so I decided to start using google sync for all my contacts. I like having a backup of all my contacts on a cloud. Any changes made are pushed automatically from google to my phone or vise versa...i.e. I NEVER have to push a sync button ever again.
