Annoyed: Contact Synching with Exchange

Is anyone else annoyed that you can't just turn off the ActiveSync contact/calendar synching without it taking away all of your previously synched information? I have no idea why it can't hold the contacts locally on your iphone until you tell it to delete them.

Not sure I understand. Do you turn off Push under Fetch New Data??
